Challenging the world by thin, light, and highly heat-resistant manifolds and bearing housings required by the current age

The exhaust manifold is the first component of the exhaust system, which collects hot engine exhaust from the cylinders of internal-combustion engines, usually in vehicles. Yamato has been manufacturing exhaust manifolds from the early stages of motorization, making the best use of the iron casting technology the company has cultivated over the years. Especially today, the company has gained a good reputation after its realization of special material, which is thin, light, and highly heat-resistant -- the qualities the present age requires.

As a manufacturer of bearing housings, Yamato is an important partner as a supporting company of a Japanese manufacturer that occupies 20% of the world market share in turbochargers. That means at least 10% of turbochargers in the world use Yamato's bearing housings. Our bearing housings are also used for he turbochargers of one of the largest European automakers. The excellence of Yamato's technology was evaluated highly by an inspector from the automaker who visited our plant. Turbine housings, that are also used for turbochargers, are another of our major products.

Yamato is an innovator. By developing new additives, we have created a higher quality vermicular cast iron. This new product, combined with our innovations in production technology for thinning, position us as a leader in both product weight reduction and cutting performance in the machining process. Weight reduction and cutting performance are two important factors that are sure to see higher demand in the future.

Yamato's high-mix low-volume production
Yamato has the capacity to satisfy the needs for a wide variety of products in small quantities. We have unique manufacturing technologies especially for high-grade parts, including heat-resistant security parts such as exhaust manifolds, hydraulic components, and turbocharger parts. By supplying these products, we support industry and contribute to the market.

As well as having cultivated excellent casting technology for years, Yamato is also developing its own facilities and inspection tools. We have promoted computerization from early on, and we now possess prominent analog and digital technologies as well as excellent hardware and software technologies.

Due to the increasing demand in the world for diesel engine turbochargers that reduce impact on the global environment, bearing housings for these engines have become the major product of Yamato. However, the technology in this area is not the only specialty Yamato has. We always try to cater for high-mix low-volume production with diversified materials, which can satisfy any kinds of requests at any time in the future. Meanwhile we continue with our research and development. Currently, a trial is underway to implement the world's first power supply system to enhance the performance of our high-frequency induction furnace. Thus, Yamato is discovering new means of advancement in the future.

The casting industry must take the workplace environment and the global environment seriously

Yamato was among the first in the Japanese casting industry to introduce dust hoods for VIP® melting furnace, which were used in Europe as a matter of course at the time. Many of the visitors to our plant comment that the volume of the dust is less than in other casting plants and the foundry aroma is not as strong.

A new dust collection system to replace the dust hoods is on track. As well as a clean environment within the foundry, we are giving due consideration to the global environment by reducing power consumption to the minimum necessary.
